Meet Our Staff

Bob Rambo | Pastor
Bob and Susie, his wife of 48 years, are natives of West Point (MS). They have two great sons, Will and Walt, two precious daughters-in-law (Merissa and Ashley), and five wonderful grandchildren.
Bob and Susie left West Point in 1980 in response to God’s call on Bob’s life to be a pastor. He retired in 2022, having served congregations small and large across northern and central Mississippi as a pastor in the United Methodist Church. In early 2024, he transferred to the Global Methodist Church, and in March 2024 became pastor of New Journey GMC in Starkville.
Bob says, “I’m thankful and excited to be part of this vibrant new community of faith that is committed to following Jesus and focusing on others! I love preaching and teaching. Since my first trip to Israel in 1987, I’ve been a passionate student of the world of Jesus and Paul. Susie and I have since led and taught groups in the Holy Land for 30+ years, and we look forward to returning there soon with New Journey friends and others!”

Genny Prewitt | Children's Ministry Director
Genny was born and raised in Starkville where she earned a degree in Human Development and Family Studies at Mississippi State University. She began her service in the children’s ministry at Starkville FUMC in 2021 and is delighted to be serving as Director of the Children’s Ministry at Starkville GMC.
Genny shares that she's always wanted to work with children and is extremely grateful for the opportunity to guide little ones in their walk with Christ. She is excited to be a part of building a strong Children’s Ministry where our kids are nurtured to grow in their faith and can feel safe and loved.

Cody Prewitt | Student Ministry Director
Cody was born and raised in Starkville, graduated from Starkville High, and is well known to many SGMC people. After completing a double major in Public Relations and Philosophy & Religion at Mississippi State, Cody answered the call to ministry. He has recently received a Master of Divinity degree from Beeson Divinity School at Samford University in Birmingham. While in seminary, Cody gained valuable ministry experience as worship coordinator at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church and met his wonderful girlfriend Kenzie, who also worked in ministry at Vestavia Hills.
Cody enjoys having fun, watching football and Mississippi State sports (HAIL STATE), playing video games, making numerous playlists of diverse genres and languages, and hanging out with friends. Cody has a dog (Brodie) and a cat (Maisie), who are the best of friends. He loves studying the Bible and strives to help inspire others to think and talk about their faith.
Cody's vision is that Starkville GMC Student Ministry will focus on talking about the Bible and what it means to be a Christ follower and serving the Kingdom with the love and peace of Christ. The students will also have tons of fellowship, deep talks, and trips that will be cornerstones in their lives and their families.

Shawn Sullivan| Music Director
Shawn is a highly experienced and dedicated music director at New Journey, where his wife Cyndi and daughter Margaret are active members. Shawn's professional journey includes currently serving as the Director of Bands for the Starkville School District, a role that involves directing the marching band and wind ensemble, and overseeing all district band programs. Prior to his current position, Shawn’s church music experience includes directing brass ensemble and handbells and serving as interim choir director at Starkville FUMC.
Shawn believes strongly in the power of music to strengthen the church and community. For that reason, he encourages the congregation to engage passionately in praise and worship and welcomes individuals to join the choir to share their musical gifts and be a part of an amazing Starkville GMC small group.
Carole Sorenson| Pianist & Ministry Assistant (Part-Time)
Carole studied piano at Delta State University and has since played piano in churches from the Mississippi Delta all the way to Starkville for too many years to count and now calls Starkville GMC home. Carole is so grateful for the opportunity to serve as pianist for this incredible church family, and I can’t wait to see what God is going to do with us and through us as we continue to grow!
Carole's role has expanded to include serving as a part-time ministry assistant. She'll be in the office Monday to Thursday from 8:30 AM – 2:30 PM and will oversee day-to-day office operations.

Marianne is almost a lifelong Starkville resident, a graduate of SHS and MSU, the mother of two exceptional daughters and granny to three super-exceptional grandchildren.
A lifelong Methodist and now a member of SGMC, she especially loves singing with all her choir friends. The part-time job opportunity and the chance to work with this staff and congregation seems the perfect fit for this time in her life, and she is humbled and thrilled at the chance to do church work again.
